A place as unique as our history...
Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park & Crematory was founded in 1964 by the Mary H. Smith consisting of 119 acres located in Ventura County and is embraced by the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy overlooking the agricultural fields of the Oxnard Plains.

The historic Chapel of the Islands, built in 1942 and was originally named Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Hueneme, California. In 1962 this church was part of the 33-acre Urban Renewal Project in Port Hueneme and had to be relocated or lost forever.

In 1965, the church was transported to the cemetery to be used for interdenominational services. Originally the Chapel of the Islands was to be transported to the center of the Cemetery however due to the weather during transportation, the chapel was placed where it sits today.
This chapel is still used today for all types of services including weddings.
October of 1977, we acquired our first cremation chamber and performed our first cremation on December 28, 1977.
May 1981, Conejo Mountain received a Funeral Establishment License and started serving client family’s funeral home needs thus becoming the only full service funeral home, memorial park and crematory. An interesting fact is, we are still the only funeral home, memorial park and crematory all located on the small site and under the same management. The increase in the number of families served required the placement of a “temporary” portable building to move all of the administration duties into. This “temporary” building remained in place until the spring of 2007.
After many years of planning & permitting, Conejo Mountain broke ground on the construction of our new funeral home on November 30, 2005. The ground breaking ceremony marked the construction of the largest and most state of the art funeral home in Ventura County.
Today, Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory will assist more than 400 client families perform 400 interments and 200 cremations annually. All of this would not be possible without our dedicated staff associates and our management team in sync working towards the same goals.
In 2008 we will yet again be the leaders in the community by upgrading our audio/visual capabilities to allow our families to share those special memories via a custom personalized DVD photo presentations.
