I met Dr.P in the ER on the 4th of July 1984. A drunk driver hit me while riding my motorcycle. I was fortunate he was the on call Orthopedic Surgeon, I didn't know it at the time. He was direct, yet compassionate delivering the diagnosis. He performed a Harrington rod procedure to fuse my broken spine. He would sit and talk with me during his evening visits, while I was in the hospital for three weeks. After another surgery an rehabilitation, over two years had passed, and I could walk, go back to work, couch kids, play softball. My good fortune to have met this man didn't end there, neither did his pcare, and concern for me. Like many spinal injury patients I was injured again, this time on the job. I went right the man, Dr.P. He treated me while the workers comp case raged on, when it was in process he continued to see me, even when insurance lapsed, he saw me. The comp co got so frustrated losing ground due to Dr P's reporting, they got their one win, forcing me to choose another Dr. After talking w Dr P, I took the insurance co. Dr, who completely agreed w
Dr.Percival. He was always there for me. Two more surgeries would follow, and I would consult w Dr.P before and after, a Costco tub of red licorice was the only payment needed. He would check the X-rays I brought, read the surgery plan, and take the time to talk with me. He cared , and knew what his
opinion meant to me. I would add his work never
failed, and is solid to this day. Another level of my spine failed. When my case took 13 long years being fought, he would see me when needed, even telling his office mgr, my cost would be $25 for an appt, after her complaints. Still looking out for me. He was instrumental in getting my SSDI benefits, a big part of winning y comp case, and was always there, to help, advise, and tell some of the best stories ever. Sitting by my hospital bed in the early years to sitting in his office eating red vines, he made time for me. When my wife needed shoulder surgery, his partner was scheduled, when I said I wished it was him, he delayed his vacation trip a few hours to be there. I will never, ever forget the time, the care, and his sense of humor-and the great adventures he told me about. His affect on my life was great, and he will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family, This post comes late, I wasn't aware of the site, and was out of state for an extended period at the time of his service. Had I known, I would have changed my plans , to honor Dr.P. Thanks for being there Doc, for your service to this country, and your care and the valuable time you gave to me. I will be forever grateful.
