James Edward Scheid, “Jim” a 59 year resident of Ventura County, passed away unexpectedly at home in Camarillo on Friday, Jun 30, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ella Scheid of Kansas.

Jim was born in Atchison, Kansas, Feb 18, 1935. He was raised on the family farm, attended St Benedict’s College and then transferred to Kansas State University where he graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, Jim moved to Ventura County to start his career at Point Mugu Navel Base as a civilian where he proudly worked for 31 years until his retirement.

Jim married Wendy Mortley on Nov 28, 1964 at Our Lady of Assumption in Ventura. They began their lives together in Oxnard but moved to Camarillo in 1971, where there was more room to raise their growing family. Jim and Wendy remained happily married for 52 years until the time of his passing. Jim raised four children; he was a loving and dedicated father to Maria, Annette, Paul and Rebecca.

Jim was a devout Catholic at Padre Serra Parish, where he was a choir member for many years. His faith was quietly expressed in how he conducted himself through his life’s journey. He loved Yosemite and spent every summer camping in its beautiful valley with his family. He was passionate about photography and was a member of the Camarillo Camera Club. He volunteered at the Commemorative Air Force at the Camarillo Airport.

Jim is survived by his wife, Wendy; daughter, Maria with granddaughter, Eliza Zawacki; daughter, Annette; son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Jaime with grandchildren, Cooper and Kati; daughter, Rebecca and son-in-law, Paul Clifton with grandchildren, Ella and Amberley; as well as many family members in Kansas.

We are all honored to have had Jim in our lives; husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. The time we had with him will always be cherished; his presence will be truly missed and his loving memory never forgotten.
