Lorna Neumeier passed away peacefully in her home on November 6, 2017, surrounded by her five children and several grandchildren. Lorna led a rich and interesting life that took her from Los Angeles, where she was born in 1926, to Oakland and then to Evansville, Indiana. From Indiana, she moved back to Los Angeles, where she married and raised a family of six children. Lorna worked full time as a homemaker.
As a teenager, Lorna developed a deep interested in art, music, fashion, and movies. She studied costume design at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, and interviewed with famed designer Edith Head at Paramount Studios. She was skilled in drawing, painting, and fashion design.
In 1946, she met the love of her life, Gene Neumeier, at the church of St. Francis de Sales. He was a minor-league baseball player before they married in 1947. They made a mutual decision to trade their respective dreams of playing baseball and working in the movies for settling down and raising a family. But their dreams never went away. Gene coached the neighborhood kids in team sports; Lorna took up oil painting when the children moved on to high school. She also loved gardening, sewing, and needlework. Gene worked a variety of jobs to support his growing family, and eventually founded and managed a successful medical product company.
After Gene’s death, Lorna became a lector at the church of Mary Magdalen in Camarillo. She was an active member of the Super Seniors, and secretary of Catholic Daughters, where she also acted as regent.
Lorna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; and daughter, Marianne Peattie.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Eileen and Marty Neumeier, Gillian and Peter Neumeier, Francele (Neumeier) Beener, Gary Peattie, Ellyn and Joseph Lennon, and Carla and Peter Girolamo. Her grandchildren, Sara Neumeier, Alexandra Beener, Shane Lennon, Will Lennon, Gina Girolamo, and Anna Girolamo will miss her greatly.
Services for Lorna will be held at Padre Serra Parish, 5205 Upland Road, Camarillo, CA 93012 on Friday, November 10, 2017 with Mass beginning at 11:00 A.M.
