Maria Fryman, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018, surrounded by loved ones in Camarillo.  Maria had been in hospice for a little over a year, an arrangement that ultimately allowed her to be able to spend her last days in comfort with family and friends.

Maria was born on May 28, 1934 in Sinaloa, Mexico, where she had three children: Gabriel, Velma and Teda.  She later moved to the United States, was married and had three daughters: Jeanne, Terry and Sherry.

In 1976, Maria became a U.S. citizen and set out to get her CNA (Certified Nurse’s Assistant).  For well over 15 years, Maria proudly served the elderly community in Ventura County as a CNA.  She was a strong, independent woman who never gave up and had courage to see life’s challenges through to success.  Whether she was learning to read and speak English in pursuit of her citizenship or comforting a sick grandchild with a high fever, she met all tasks with grace.  A perfect example was her enduring strength while under hospice. She survived much longer than doctors had anticipated.

Maria enjoyed working in the garden, long walks, watching soap-operas, dining out and taking pride in her home, which she always made sure was tidy and warm.  Maria loved music and she would listen to it often while visiting with her daughters.  Some of her favorites were Dean Martin, Linda Ronstadt, Elvis and many more.  Music was even used as a therapeutic tool while she was in hospice.  Maria also liked nothing more than to be a friend to all she met.  Her cute Spanish accent and spunky attitude were part of the charm that drew people close to her.

Maria wanted to be there for all whom she loved and who loved her.  She was dedicated and generous to family, friends and neighbors.  Whether near or far, she loved her family, wanted them to pursue their dreams and made sure she was there to support in them in the effort.  Whether traveling to Greece, Mexico, Oregon or Camarillo or making many long-distance calls, she was there for her family.  Her deepest love was reserved for her children, grandchildren and son-in-law.  Maria will be missed but will live forever in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who loved her.
