Mary Louise Berg

March 6, 1928 ~ July 7, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Beloved wife, mother and great-great grandmother Mary Louise Berg passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on July 7, 2017.

Mary Lou, as she was known to her family and friends, was born and raised in Oxnard, California to Jesus and Eleanor Padilla. She grew up in a hard-working family with humble circumstances, but cherished her family’s closeness. They were emotionally close but what was most important to her was their physical closeness; as the entire family lived on the same street in Oxnard. Mary Lou would tell stories of her sisters, brothers and cousins running from house to house. These beloved memories always brought a smile to her face.

Throughout Mary Lou’s life she exemplified class and beauty. She always took great pride in how she presented herself, and was known for exuding style, grace and physically beauty that defied her age- anyone who was lucky enough to hear her skin care routine took vigorous notes. Mary Lou always wore beautiful clothes, shoes, and handbags so she could look and feel her very best at all times. Because of this, she was lovingly known as “Auntie Zsa Zsa.” She was the type of women who always crossed her legs when sitting in her favorite loveseat and had her hands resting in her lap, a habit that she continued into the last weeks of her life.

The hallmark of Mary Lou’s life can be defined by the love she received from her husband Rex Berg and the love that she gave to him and her family. Anyone that witnessed their beautiful 56 years together knew they were in the presence of true love, and everything that love should be. They were one unit and formed an everlasting bond that truly was once in a lifetime. They shared a lifetime of beautiful memories, from Rex waking her up every morning with a “good morning my darling girl,” to bringing her a box of See’s candy home as a little treat, and most importantly having the comfort and joy of always being together. Mary Lou’s life was at times difficult, with periods of grief and sadness, but her beautiful relationship with Rex was a light that brought her comfort and joy throughout their lives together.  They were the two halves that truly made a whole.

She is survived by her husband Rex Berg; loving daughters Patricia White and Debbie (Wayne) Callaway; brother Robert “Sonny” Padilla; grandchildren Carol McChesney, Paul (Yolanda) Gonzales, Joanna (Caleb) Phillips, Mary Callaway, and Jon Callaway; great-grandchildren Jeffrey McChesney, Paul (Leann) Gonzales, Josh Gonzales, Sarah Gonzales, C.J. Phillips; great-great grandchild Elody Miller; and her many, many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Eleanor Padilla; siblings Helen Rojo, Carmen Ortega, Caroline Ramirez, Josie Brown, Raymond Padilla, Richard Padilla and his twin sister baby Rachel Padilla; former husband and father to Patricia, Frank M. Perez.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 4:00 until 6 p.m. at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home. At 6 p.m. the Rosary will begin. This date was chosen as a tribute to her mother’s birthday. Funeral Mass will be held on July 14, at Saint Mary Magdalen’s Chapel on Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo at 10 a.m., with the graveside service to follow at Conejo Mountain Cemetery.
