Our mother, ‘Connie’ as she was known all her life, was born on September 10, 1924 in Ventura, California to Clarence and Edna Mattson. She attended schools in Ventura and Ojai graduating from Ventura High School and briefly attended Ventura College. She was a life-long Ventura County resident.
During World War II she met a Navy pilot, Lt. (JG) Carrell Festerling, at a USO dance in Oxnard. They fell in love and were married in Forks, Washington on August 24, 1945. After dad’s discharge from service they moved to Ventura, CA and started a family. David was born in 1947 and Charles in 1950. They bought their first home in El Rio, CA in an orange orchard.
Mom raised us boys for many years while dad worked to support us. She was active in all sorts of groups from PTA to athletic booster clubs to the fire department women’s auxiliary. Later as we grew up, she worked for the Raytheon Company in Oxnard. She was an Executive Assistant in the missile prototype department for many years.
In retirement mom and dad traveled extensively and she was very active in crafting and grandkids. She leaves behind two sons, two daughters-in-law, four grandkids and spouses, and ten great grandkids all who will miss her very dearly.
