Tribute

Don passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Nov. 17 after a brief illness. Don will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Maxine; his wife of 35 years, Lorraine; His sons, David and Douglas, their wives, JoJo and Rebecca and his granddaughter Harper Marie as well as many other relatives, friends and grandchildren-to-be. Don was preceded in death by his father Douglas Leroy Henwood.

Don was born on Jan 29, 1950 in Wichita, KS. His younger years were spent moving multiple times as his dad worked around the Southwest. He resided in Alva OK, El Paso TX, Cloudcroft NM and El Centro CA to name a few before settling in Thousand Oaks in 1965. He graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 1968 and received an Associate degree from Moorpark College.

Don began working at Southern California Edison in 1971 holding various positions before attaining his goal of becoming a Journey Lineman Splicer. He loved his work and the people working beside him. Don didn't have any siblings, but his brothers and sisters at SCE were as close as one could get. He retired as a Construction Coordinator in the Planning Dept in 2005.

Don will forever be remembered for his quiet strength, his kind heart, quick wit and easy smile. He was a real fun-loving desert rat and proud of it. He loved the outdoors whether it be boating and waterskiing at Lake Havasu, Jeeping in the desert, RVing with friends and family, accompanying his wife on her hiking adventures or simply enjoying wine and sunsets on the patio.

Don loved a good challenge especially when it came to fixing things. He could fix anything,  It was his passion and his gift. He also enjoyed the many hours he spent with his sons working on their cars, boats and his '62 Chevy truck.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life with us on Sat, Dec 1 at Noon at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in The Chapel of the Islands. There will be a memory book at the service. The family would love for you to include your stories and memories of Don. If you would like to honor Don, please raise a glass of your favorite drink and give him a Cheers
