Donald Bromley Pratt

Donald (Don) Bromley Pratt, 74, of Simi Valley, California, passed away on 22 March 2023 in Van Nuys, California.

Don was born in Ventura, California, to Alma and Grace Pratt on 8 May 1948. After living in various parts of the South Pacific, including Hawaii, Australia, American Samoa, as well as Southern California and Utah, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bonhomme Richard in the Vietnam War. He later met Janice Katherine Merrill and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 8 July 1972. He attended Brigham Young University, where he studied management information systems. While attending the university, he and Janice had a son, Jeffrey, born 12 August 1975. A daughter, Kristin, born 10 October 1976, preceded Don in death after living on this earth for seven days. Later, Don and Janice moved to Aloha, Oregon, where they had a daughter, Jennifer, born 3 July 1983. Some years later, they moved to Simi Valley, California. Don worked as an information technology professional in Oregon and California, working in the banking, aerospace, and health insurance industries.

Don had a great love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in various capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in bishoprics and leadership, as a teacher, and in other capacities. He loved basketball and brought his love of that sport to his Church responsibilities, coaching and organizing young men’s basketball teams. He also loved music, including playing the guitar and singing in Church, and he shared his love of music with his children and others.

Having lived in Hawaii and American Samoa, Don loved the Polynesian peoples and their cultures. He was fond of woodworking. He will be missed. He is survived by his beloved wife Janice and their children Jeffrey (Natasha) Pratt and Jennifer (Eric) Peach, and grandchildren Linde Pratt and Clayton Pratt.
