Eleonora “Eleanor” Veronica Deraney, daughter of the late Leonhard Geist and Eleonore Dietz, was born on November 28, 1922 in Munich Germany. Eleanor completed her early education in Germany and continued in America, earning a Bachelor’s in Literature from Cal State Northridge. She was retired having worked as a Administrative Assistant for Dornier Airplane Company, BMW, South African Gold Mines, the U.S. Army and, later, the U.S. Air Force where she met her husband, the late George Deraney.
Eleanor was a resident of Camarillo, CA for 54 years, where her husband retired after over 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. She served in several volunteer positions, including as a Hospice volunteer for 16 years. Eleanor is predeceased by her beloved husband George, who was wounded in Pearl Harbor and later died as a result of complications from his injuries in 1975. Also by her parents and brother Edwin, who was killed in World War II.
Eleanor is survived by her sons Armin and Alex, daughter Samuela; daughter-in law Marisa and son-in-law Wolfgang. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Daniela, Bianca, Lisa and Aliena; two grandsons, Timon and Leomaris; two great grandsons, Ben and Max; as well as her brother Walter, his wife Hanni and their three sons.
Eleanor will be laid to rest at Conejo Mountain in Camarillo following mass at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel.
