Elinor Debord, 81, of Oxnard, California, passed away on December 22, 2020. Gary Debord, age 77, of Oxnard, California, passed away on December 26, 2020. 

Gary was born to Cecil Debord and Genevieve Harris Debord on June 20, 1943 in Red Mountain, California. He was raised in the high desert town of Boron and graduated from Desert High School in Edwards, California, in 1962. He moved to Ventura County in his early 20s and worked for over 25 years as a school custodian at various schools in the Ventura United School District. Gary married Alice Sweetland in 1966. They were married for 34 years and raised 4 daughters in Ojai, California.  

Elinor was raised in New Mexico before moving to Ventura County. She married Gary in 2002. Gary and Elinor enjoyed many years of fellowship with their church family at United Pentecostal Church of Oxnard, where Elinor was an active member in the women’s ministries there. 

Gary was a classic hot rod enthusiast and loved to go to car shows and to work on his cars. He also loved basketball and rarely missed a Los Angeles Lakers game. Gary will be remembered for his humorous storytelling. Many of Gary and Elinor’s long-time neighbors remember their friendliness and how they reached out to their community. 

Gary was preceded in death by his father in 1966, his stepfather Gordon Blenkhorn in 2007 and his mother in 2017. Elinor was preceded in death by her two children. Gary is survived by his 4 daughters Laura Westfall, Ellen Perez, Karen Rodrigues and Susan Vaca, along with his 10 grandchildren, his sister Margie Lundie and his stepbrother David Blenkhorn. 

There will be a grave-side service for both Elinor and Gary on January 18, 2021 at 11am at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo, CA. 

Two Hearts

When we found each other,

our search came to an end.

The sorrows, joys and pleasures

were embraced by two best friends.

Friends and family marveled 

at the couple we'd become.

Starting our new journey now

of two hearts forever joined as one.
