Tribute

Gary Dayne Snyder, 77, after a short battle with gallbladder cancer, and over 35 years of neuropathy, died peacefully July 8, 2021 surrounded by his beloved wife Lynette and his seven loving children.

He was born May 4, 1944 to parents Dawson and Florence Snyder in Glendale, CA.  Gary was the third of six children. Gary grew up in the Burbank area and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Sydney Australia Mission from 1963-1965.  Gary attended Brigham Young University and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1969.

Gary married his college sweetheart Lynette Elaine Chipman on September 1, 1966 in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was sealed for time and all eternity. Gary and Lynette were blessed with seven children, five boys and two girls. They enjoyed raising them together in faith and love.

Gary worked as an accountant for almost 50 years in the Thousand Oaks community. Gary also served in many capacities in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for over 50 years including Bishop and Stake President of the Thousand Oaks Stake.  He loved the Lord and was willing to serve in any way asked of him.

Gary loved sports, especially playing fast pitch softball and watching and helping his kids in all their sports teams. Gary loved watching the LA Dodgers and LA Lakers and his alma mater BYU Cougar football. He also had a great love and pride for his country. Gary had a great sense of humor and would always have a joke to tell to get a laugh out of someone. He was also known to have a love for ice cream and peanut M&Ms and was always willing to share. Most of all, Gary loved being with family. He loved raising his children with Lynette and being surrounded by his many grandchildren and loving and supporting them.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Dawson & Florence, his granddaughter Emma, and his former daughter-in-law Stephanie Horne.

He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 55 years, Lynette, and all his children: Scott (Dawna), Paul (Romy), Brian (Laura), Janene (Geoff), Stephen (Nedra), Stacey (Jared), and Trevor (Alisa), and his 34 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  He is also survived by his five siblings: Darryl Snyder, Ron Snyder, Sherryl Allen, Deborah Isaksen, and Ken Snyder, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was an honest man of great faith that loved His Savior.  He was a beloved husband, amazing father, and world's greatest grandpa.  He will be greatly missed, but his posterity will live on in his honor.
