Tribute

Our beloved parents Gerald (Jerry) and Madeline McNulty passed away peacefully at their family home after 58 years of marriage. Madeline (85) passed on February 24th and Jerry (90) followed just 3 days later on February 27th. They both struggled with illness for some time but led lives full of love and laughter to the end.

They are survived by their five children: Tim McNulty, Dennis McNulty, Matt McNulty, Karen McCarthy and Susan MacDermott and their six grandchildren.

Jerry was born in Minnesota during the Great Depression. His family moved to Reseda, California soon after his birth and they then went north, ultimately acquiring a ranch in Ukiah California, raising cattle and other livestock. Following college at UC Davis and Cal State Northridge, Jerry had hoped to take over the management of the family ranch. However, the damming of the Russian River by the government put the ranch at the bottom of what is now Lake Mendocino and uprooted the family. Jerry went on to become a successful commercial real estate developer and investor, actively managing property until his passing.

Madeline was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Marymount College (now Fordham University) as an English major and then received her Master’s degree in education from Columbia University. Certainly the brains of the two, she obtained full academic scholarships to both universities and vainly corrected Jerry’s grammar and spelling to the end. A lifelong Dodger fan who regularly attended games at Ebbets field in Brooklyn, her family’s move to Southern California coincided with the Dodgers move out West. Madeline taught school in Woodland Hills for several years, but after marrying Jerry, devoted her life to raising her family.

Jerry and Madeline shared an intense love of the outdoors, nature and adventure. Summers were invariably spent on long trips in their RV, camping and fishing all over the western United States and Canada, always on the lookout for new and more remote locations. The Eastern Sierra was a special place to them and, during their later years, they settled upon Silver Lake in the June Lake Loop as their regular destination.

Madeline and Jerry’s humor was infectious and always quick to be displayed. They did not hesitate to laugh at themselves and had little tolerance for those who took themselves too seriously. Their unique and loving spirits will be dearly missed.

Their Catholic faith was paramount in their lives, and they attended St Mary Magdalen Parish in Camarillo for over 50 years. Inseparable even in death, services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Saturday March 25th at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following at their home.

NOTE: Conejo Mountain Funeral Home is not involved with the services at the church.
