Tribute

Ike Nuno Salinas was born in Raton, Texas on December 7th, 1938, and passed away on September 5, 2022.  As a young child his family moved to Michigan and then to California where they settled in Nipomo, California.  Here Ike met his future wife, Eva C. Ballesteros.  Ike and Eva later married and moved several times before they chose to live permanently in Camarillo, California.  They had two children, Isaac Martin Salinas and Graciela Ballesteros Salinas.  They purchased a home on Chapel Drive where they lived for the next 50+ years.  Ike served in the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1965.  He worked for Carpenter’s Union 1506 as a carpenter and drywall hanger.  He did this until he was forced to retire due to knee injuries.

Ike enjoyed his home and his neighbors on Chapel Drive.  He coached Little League for many years.  He enjoyed reading the paper every morning and watching football and baseball, especially the Dodgers.  He especially enjoyed his morning coffee sessions with his friends in the neighborhood.   He liked to help his neighbors whenever he was asked.  He entertained the neighborhood kids with fireworks on July Fourth and always decorated the house for Halloween.  His favorite time was Christmas, and you could usually find him at home wearing his Santa hat.  Ike grew up on a farm and enjoyed having animals.  His backyard was home to rabbits, chickens, doves, dogs and geese at one time or another.  Being a carpenter, he built backyard chicken cops and the best dog houses.  He also extended onto his house and built his wife Eva a master bedroom suite.  His son Isaac followed in his dad’s footsteps and became a carpenter.

Ike lived in the Chapel Drive house until he had to be moved to a skilled nursing facility.  Ike had worked hard and now suffered from Parkinson’s Syndrome, dementia and could no longer walk.  His wife also entered the same facility shortly after due to continued failing health.  Ike passed away on September 5, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his son Isaac and his wife Eva.  He is survived by his daughter Graciela, brothers Trini and Mike, sisters Tillie and Eloise.
