Janet "Bebe" Levy

Janet “Bebe” Levy, 99, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on July 8, 2019, passing peacefully in her sleep with her children by her side.

Janet was born on May 5, 1920 in Tyrone, Pa. to John Edward and Jeanette (Shildt) Rhoades. She was the youngest of five daughters and a twin to brother, Edward. When Janet was just 12-years-old, she met the love of her life, Robert J. Levy and they wed in 1939. Janet’s early married years were spent in Tyrone raising their five children and dealing with the effects of World War II. In 1956, she decided they should move to California and they did, settling in the San Fernando Valley where Bob worked for the Flying Tiger Air Cargo group. Janet worked in the Aerospace industry for Hughes Aircraft for a number of years. After retirement, she and Bob lived briefly in Forest Hills, Ca. before settling in Camarillo Springs in 1999 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Christened “Bebe” by her beloved grandson, Todd, Janet was a much-loved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and dear friend to many. Mom loved to dance. She was a very social person, never tired of meeting new friends. In fact, in all her years, she never met a stranger. She was a devout Steelers fan, a volunteer for the Gleaners and Harvest for many years, a lifelong swimmer and the “peacemaker” amongst her large, rowdy, extended family. Always ready to help anyone in need, she was “mom” to the many who lived temporarily at our house over the years.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert J. “Bob” Levy in 2007; son, Darrell Lynn Levy in 2012; and grandson, Michael “Todd” Levy in 2012. Mom was the last of her generation in our family, having outlived all of her siblings as well as dad’s siblings. She is survived by her sons, Duane Levy (Betty) of Newbury Park, Ca. and Kent R. “Buz” Levy (Patty) of Kihei, Hi.; daughters, Kay D. Levy Smith of Redondo Beach, Ca. and Leslie Ann Levy McWaid (Ken) of Redondo Beach, Ca.; grandchildren, Kelly, Candice, Dana, Jeff and Craig; 17 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Fri, November 8, 2019 at 1:30pm at the Chapel of the Islands at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo with reception to follow in the Community Room. Doug Posey of Living Oaks Community Church will preside. Inurnment burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
