John Raymond Dever

John Raymond Dever, beloved son, brother, husband and father, passed away on October 27, 2020.

He served local government for a total 29 years, including City of Oxnard, City of Thousand Oaks, and retired from City of Camarillo.  After his retirement, he devoted his time to helping animals at the Ventura County Animal Shelter. 

He opened his heart and home to many exchange students from all over the world.  He treated everyone with gourmet cooking daily.  He enjoyed visiting National Parks with family and students which reflected his love for nature as well as everything related to it.

He is survived by his wife, Hiromi; daughter, Hanna; father, George Dever; siblings, D. George Dever and Douglas Dever of Indiana, and Patricia Hinton of Florida; and many nephews and nieces.  He is also survived by 3 dogs; Winston, Ariel, and Iceberg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name

to Ventura County Animal services.

From the time your figure fell upon mine,

You led me to dream, you sparked my desire.

My reverence for those of your bloodline,

Is only named with two words: I aspire.

Your delicate structures of glass and steel,

Are magnets that attract all those yonder.

They ache, they pine for just a feel,

To feed the fire, to cure their mis wander.

You force gravity to bend till the end,

Almost as if you avoid all trouble.

But sometimes fate forces an ill descend,

And you crumble, tumble till all’s rubble.

But Mother Nature cannot stop the pure,

For you are the enduring, endless cure.
