Judy after visiting the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza in Mexico in November of 2021.

Judith Marie Hawthorne was born on August 28, 1939, in Jersey City, New Jersey and passed away at the age of 83 after a cancer diagnosis in early 2023.  She passed at her home in Camarillo on August 17, 2023, just two days shy of her planned 84th birthday party.  Judy and our father, Russ, were married in 1958 and they moved to California in 1960.  She worked for years at 2 Wall Street in New York, NY (Next to Trinity Church / future World Trade Center site in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan) then for the Prudential company and California Highway Patrol after moving to California.  Judy retired around 1996 and thoroughly enjoyed her retirement, travel, social life, family, and of course her casino visits.

Judy loved her community and volunteered thousands of hours working with disabled and handicapped persons at Valley Village, which is a non-profit organization assisting those with developmental disabilities.  Judy and Russ were two of the founding parents of the organization.  Valley Village was founded in 1971 and has continually grown in their ability to help those in need.  Valley Village, and their assistance in giving her son and our brother Robert an amazing quality of life, was one of her most rewarding accomplishments.

Judy passed away at home with her family at her side, which was her one request after her husband and our father passed the same way almost eight years prior to the day.  Judy is survived by her two children and their spouses, Kelly (Hawthorne) Dalbec and Patrick Dalbec, Patrick Hawthorne and Basylizo Yzaguirre, her two granddaughters, Rachel (Dalbec) Cordua and Colleen Dalbec, and her great granddaughter, Paislee DeNoma.

Judy was a social butterfly, had many friends, and belonged to several groups including her local YMCA Swim Group, TOPS Club, and her chair Yoga group.  Judy had an amazing sense of humor and will always be remembered by her adorable smile and loving playful disposition.  Judy is preceded in death and is now embracing her beloved husband of over 57 years and their oldest son Robbie.

A celebration of Judy’s amazing life will be held at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road in Camarillo, on September 29, 2023, at 2 pm followed by a reception at the same location.

Judy’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Valley Village, 20830 Sherman Way, Winnetka, Ca. 91306 or at www.valleyvillage.org
