Tribute

Karin L Larson of Pacific Palisades, CA passed away peacefully on April 24, 2021 at home, surrounded by family and friends.

Karin was born August 8, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN.  She graduated from South High School and attended the University of Minnesota where she received her degree in business and international relations.  She later earned an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Karin moved out to California after a vacation to the area and decided she wanted to stay awhile.  While out there, she was given an opportunity at Capital Group and so she was uniquely blessed.  Starting as a secretary, she worked her way up to become an analyst, portfolio manager, and eventually, the first female research director at Capital.  One of her favorite parts of her work with Capital included mentoring new analysts.

Her philanthropic passion and support will never be fully known.  Some of the many organizations dear to her heart include Minnesota Public Radio, American Swedish Institute, Bethel University, Union Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, California Science Center, and numerous educational programs.

Karin was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Clara Larson, her brothers Wayne (Frances) and Wyman Larson and niece Kimberly Vaughn.    She is survived by her sister-in-law Marshia, nieces and nephews Gregory, Jeffrey, Bradley, Brian, Steven, Nancy (Dent), Wendy (Adams) and Stanley Larson.  In addition, Karin is survived by many grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.  She leaves behind countless friends she’s met through her personal, professional, and charitable work.

A memorial service for Karin is being held on May 15, 2021 at Malibu Pacific Church.  The visitation is at 10:00 and the service begins at 10:30. There will be a replay provided at a later date.  Private interment will follow later in the afternoon.

In the last days of her life, the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles was weighing heavy on her heart.  In lieu of flowers, Karin asked that donations be made to Union Rescue Mission of California.  Their mission, since 1891, is to help men, women, and children experiencing homelessness so they can get off the street and find their way home.
