Patty Welch
8/19/36 - 3/23/19
Patty Welch passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father at the age of 82, after a brief illness.
She spent her first 18 years in El Centro, California, where she was born in 1936. She moved to Santa Barbara in 1954 to attend UCSB, where she met Ron Welch in one of her freshman classes. They soon married and lived together until Ron’s death 57 years later.
Patty spent much of their married life raising their five children, while Ron taught high school and coached basketball, including at Oak Park High School. In 1985, they settled in Newbury Park, where Patty lived for the rest of her life. Later in life, Patty returned to college, graduating summa cum laude from Cal State Northridge. She then taught first grade in Fillmore for many years.
Throughout her life, she greatly enjoyed music and tennis. She loved singing and playing the piano. She played tennis until just a couple months ago, enjoying regular games with her friends, children and grandchildren. A vibrant and social person, she also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and having special vacations with her adult children.
Patty made friends everywhere she went, maintaining many life-long bonds with extended family, childhood friends, and former and current neighbors. We will all miss her.
Patty is survived by her five children (Sue, Greg, Cathy, Jan and Mike), eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Patty’s Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 13 at First Christian Church, 801 Knollwood Drive, Newbury Park, CA 91320.
