Robert “Bob” Alvin Fletcher died January 10, 2019 at Select Senior Living, a residential care facility in Thousand Oaks, California, after battling vascular dementia for several years.

Bob was born April 19, 1941 to Alvin and Jean Fletcher in Rock Springs, Wyoming.  He lived there until he was 3 years old, at which time his dad joined the US Army.  Bob and his mother, Jean, moved to Denver to live with her mother for a few years.  After his dad was discharged from the Army they moved to Billings, Montana.  In 1947, Bob’s sister Nancy was born.  He competed on the wrestling team at Billings High School, and graduated in 1959.  He attended BYU for two years before serving a mission at the age of 21 for the LDS church in Southern California.  After completing his mission, he returned to BYU and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1966. While at BYU he enjoyed competing on the Ballroom Dance team.  He was also an avid tennis player, which starting during college and lasted until he became a father.

After graduating from BYU, Bob moved to San Francisco and began working as a CPA.  In the early ‘70’s, he moved to Southern California.  Bob and Freya Smith met for the first time at a mutual friend’s house in Salt Lake City in December of 1979.  It wasn’t until June of 1980, when Freya arrived in California, that he asked her out for dinner.  On April 2, 1981 Bob and Freya were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Sherman Oaks and later moved to Thousand Oaks, California.  In January of 1986, they welcomed their daughter Alyson and in October of 1987, their daughter Lynne was born.

Bob was very active in the LDS church.  He was faithful in his service as primary leader for 25-years, home teacher for 64-years, and a Webelos leader for 20-years. His passion for providing service to others will long be remembered. 

He is survived by his wife, Freya Fletcher and their daughter Alyson Berg (Jesse) of Thousands Oaks, California and their daughter Lynne Caldwell (Ryan) of Alpharetta, Georgia.  Bob is also survived by three grandchildren; Payton Berg, Eden Caldwell and Brayden Caldwell, whom he adored.  Also surviving is his sister, Nancy Scharnowske (Michael) of Red Lodge, Montana.  His parents preceded him in death.

Bob will be missed and remembered fondly by his family and friends.  Viewing will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 10:00-10:30 am followed by a funeral at 11:00 am, both at the LDS church at 1600 Erbes Road in Thousand Oaks, CA.  A graveside service will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, CA at approximately 12:45 pm. 

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Bob’s name to Buena Vista Hospice or to the Conejo Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 1600 Erbes Rd, TO, CA 91362 attention Bishop Steven Barrus, earmarked for Boy Scout Troop 577 for their upcoming camping trip to Catalina.
