Santo Joseph Recupero

April 16, 1924 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Santo Recupero passed away peaceful in his home on June 9, 2017 at age 93. Born on April 16, 1924, he was the 6th child out of 8 from Sicilian immigrant parents, Andrew and Francis Recupero . Santo was a graduate of Washington Park High School and a part of the "Greatest Generation" as he bravely fought in the US Army's artillery division in WW2. During his tour of duty, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge, D Day +3, and helped liberate a Nazi death camp. All experiences which shaped and stayed with him the rest of his life. After the war, he worked at a dry cleaners for a while until he started at the US Post Office. As the story goes, he met his life long love Millie Conrad and their first date was a ride around the dry cleaner's delivery truck. They were married on October 12, l946 and stayed married until her passing which was a few months shy of their 70th anniversary. He worked for the US Post Office for 35 years and retired in 1980. He and Millie then moved to southern California. They settled in beautiful Camarillo and stayed there until their passings. Santo took courses in income tax preparation during his so-called retirement and worked part time in his home for many years. He did this well into his 80s. What most didn't know is that besides his keen intellect, Santo was a great craftsman . He built a whole garage from the dirt up and the finest knotty pine recreational basement which included a full bathroom with shower and all. Best of all though, was his deep desire to be the best provider he could be for those in his inner circle. He worked a life time regardless of whatever loss to himself to provide for those he cared about and always had an open door for you if you needed help. Rest in peace "Five Knuckles Recupero" as you called yourself. You will be truly missed but never forgotten by those you knew and loved you. Santo is survived by 2 sisters Fran Gilchrist and Mary Recupero, 4 children Sandra Brkich(Michael) David Recupero (Kathy), Susan Stewart(David) and Thomas Recupero (Joy), grandchildren Jason Brkich, Tiffany Brkich, Jeremy Recupero, Kristen Miller (Jon),Nicholas Recupero(Kimberly) Lisa Recupero and Erika Recupero and a great granddaughter Sophia Recupero. Also 2 step grandchildren Rebekah Li and Samuel Li
