Susan M. Pollard

Susan Marie Pollard was born in Glendale, CA  on April 16, 1951.  She was the third child of Melvin and Clara Gillaspy.  She had an older brother, Donald M. Gillaspy (deceased) and an older sister named Sharon. Her parents were originally from Illinois, but relocated to Montrose, California in 1943.  Susie (as her family calls her) completed her elementary, middle school and high school education in the Glendale Unified School district.  She was a good student and enjoyed learning new things.

After graduating from high school, she went on to attend Glendale Jr. College and Riverside, Jr. College.  While living in northern California, she attended California State University at Hayward.  Later she returned to the Los Angeles area and completed her Bachelor's degree in Child Development at the California State University at Los Angeles.

Susie tried a few different types of jobs in the dental assistant field, but later found her true interest in working in the Glendale Unified School District at the Wilson Jr. High School in the nurses office.  She especially enjoyed working with many of the special needs children who were always coming in to see her.  She developed many positive relationships with these children and would even have the parents permission to take them on special outings.

Susie married Jack Phillips in 1979.  They had one daughter named Jennifer J. Phillips. 

Susie was married to her last husband Gary Pollard for 10 years and lived with him in Sylmar and Camarillo, CA.  After their divorce, Susie continued living at the Rancho Adolfo Estates in Camarillo, CA and truly enjoyed her friends, swimming, collecting stamps and gardening.  Susie lived a full life, but had many hurdles to overcome during her life.  She faced these hurdles with true courage and perserverance and did her best to deal with the many difficulties of life.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer J. Phillips from Hawthorne, CA, her sister Sharon Sheahan from Clovis, CA and her nieces:  Victoria Romero & her husband Miguel from Chandler, Arizona, Kathy Gillaspy from Arizona, Debbie Gillaspy & her mother Teresa from Ramona, CA, Lori Fultz Ryan & her husband Dan from Fresno, CA. and her nephew Darren Fultz and his wife Anna Osborn from New York, NY.  Susie also had many great nieces:  Lucy and Lark Fultz, Madi and Grace Ryan and one great nephew, Griffin Fultz and one great or second cousin, Esteban Romero.  Susie loved all of her family deeply and enjoyed their company.  She will be greatly missed not only by her family but by all of those whose lives she touched.
