On June 9, 2022, our loving mother, Thelma Fern Spohn, went to be with Our Lord. She was 99 years old.
Thelma was born in Fresno, California on October 15, 1922, to P.O. and Effie McAllister, at 9:45 in the morning causing her mother to often say she was born in time for Sunday school. She loved to sing and was a drum majorette in high school. In her long life, Thelma lived in many areas of California and beyond including Turlock, Bass Lake, North Fork, Balboa Island, San Francisco, Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz, Fort Sumner (New Mexico), DeRidder (Louisiana), Port Hueneme before settling in Camarillo in 1968 with her husband Jack Spohn. Later, she lived in senior communities in Ventura and Santa Maria, Ca.
Throughout her life, Thelma had a great faith in God, which she used to guide her in raising her two daughters Carole and Linda and later when she became a step-mother to John, Rick, and Doug. In 1978, Thelma joined Community Bible Study where she made many good friends over many years including Margaret Frost. After Jack retired, they both enjoyed traveling. Their favorites included cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. Jack and Thelma could often be seen at a Dodgers game wearing their Dodger blue and rooting for their favorite team. Once, she even caught a foul ball in her soda cup!
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, P.O. and Effie, beloved husband Jack, sisters Ruby and Lula Mae, brother Harry, and daughter Carole. She is survived by her daughter Linda Wargin (Neal), sons John (Vickey), Rick (Joy), and Doug (Erica) Spohn, grandchildren Jason and Julie Busby, Matthew Wood, Justin Spohn, Shannon Ryan, Ryan and Mark Spohn, Amanda Davis, Steve Gonzales, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thelma will be greatly missed, but we know she is at peace now.
