Theresa Marie Espinoza – Zuniga

Theresa passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the age of 71.  Born on October 9, 1949 in Oxnard, CA to Lucian & Thomasita Espinoza.  She grew up in Oxnard, California along with her sisters.  She attended Oxnard High School, was a stay at home mom until her children were old enough for her to join the workforce.  Theresa began her career in 1989 with the State of California as a Food Service Worker for Camarillo State Hospital.  Theresa went on to become a Cook for the California Department of Forestry – at the Fire Academy in Ione, CA where she retired in 2013.  

Theresa was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  Spending time talking, laughing and enjoying the company of family and friends is what she loved.  She was an amazing cook, always ready to prepare a meal for visitors.  She always had a smile and hug to greet you and a soft voice to sooth you.  You knew you were in the presence of an angel when she was around.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Lucian & Thomasita Espinoza, her sisters Lucy Garza, Dolores Espinoza and Yolanda Valenzuela.  She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Peter Zuniga, daughter Lucia “Lulu” Salas (Ben), three sons, Jesus ‘Jay’ Zuniga (Gina), Monty Zuniga (Terri), Peter Paul Zuniga and Step-daughter Sonya Coronado (George).  Ten grandchildren, Monique Castro (Rick), Nikita Zuniga, Nitalia Zuniga, Zayden Zuniga, Monty Zuniga, Katya Zuniga, Audrina Zuniga, Michael Gonzalez, Daniel Martinez-Cohn, & Aleena Salas.  Three great grandchildren, Desirre, Richard and Xandria Castro.  Twin Sister Serena Espinoza and many nieces and nephews.
