Warren D. Shelton

April 7, 1963 ~ December 30, 2021 (age 58) 58 Years Old

Tribute

Warren David Shelton, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, suddenly passed away on December 30, 2021.

Born in Kenora, Ontario, Canada on April 7, 1963 to David and Ellen Shelton, Warren moved with his family to Ventura, California in the mid-1960s, settling on the east end of town, where he attended Buena High School (‘81) and Ventura College.

At age 18, Warren began work at the Port of Hueneme as a longshoreman, a profession he held for the next 40 years. Warren was a proud and dedicated member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), where he served his brothers and sisters in labor as Local 46 President and Dispatcher for 12 years. He also served on several international Union committees, where his work allowed him to travel extensively and to meet with local, state, and federal elected officials on labor, trade, and shipping issues. In addition, Warren owned and operated S&S Salt Distributors. Warren also played an extremely active role in managing Shelton Ranches, the family’s small avocado farming operation.

Warren married the love of his life, Kim Wells on April 9, 1988. He was an extremely hard-working man and devoted husband, father, and friend. He was happiest in the company of family and friends, and always made others smile and laugh. Warren was the life of the party and there was almost never a week that passed where Warren wasn’t hosting family and friends at his home, or out spending time with friends around town.  Warren had such a big heart, always willing to help others with whatever life presented, from being a supportive confidant to assisting with home or automotive repairs. He was always there no matter what and if he wasn't able to help, he always knew a guy who could. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Warren loved to fish, hunt, play recreational ice hockey, travel, and experience the wine and culinary scenes wherever his travels took him.

Warren is survived by his wife, Kim Shelton; his son, Tanner Shelton (wife, Sara Shelton); his daughter, Paige Shelton (fiancé, Garrett Reynolds); his parents; Dave and Ellen Shelton; and his sister; Cheryl Whalen (Brian). He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Judy Wells; sister-in-laws, Jennifer Wells Armstrong and Becky Wells Gray (Randy).  As well as numerous nieces and nephews and a network of extended family and friends.

A special thank you and appreciation to everyone for their love, support, and kindness during this time. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Warren at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Warren Shelton to one of the following organizations that were meaningful to him: The Ventura Land Trust or Must! Charities.
