William Lee Park of Newbury Park passed away two days after his 90th birthday on August 23, 2017.
Bill was born in Hollywood, CA on August 21,1927. He was the middle child, with two older half-brothers and two younger sisters. Growing up, Bill would play with a friend at the nearby Hollywood Hotel, unaware that stars frequented the dining room.
On the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, Bill was instantly motivated to join the military. He left Hollywood High School to join the U.S. Navy. Bill was stationed on a repair ship and was among the first to arrive in battle-devastated Okinawa and Tokyo just after the surrender.
After the war, Bill worked for a florist and made deliveries to Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and John Wayne, to name a few.
In 1950, Bill joined Lockheed Transportation Department building tractors, cranes and forklifts. He was promoted to supervisor and enjoyed a 40 year career with the company, until his retirement in 1990.
Bill married Juanita Mable Jackson in 1950. He was married again in 1993 to Patricia McGuire.
Bill made many close friends throughout his life, including people in the neighborhood where he lived for 55 years, and those he met out in the community. People were taken by his sense of humor and joy for life. Bill cared deeply for others and in turn they cared for him.
