Capt. William A Lebert (USN Ret) age 94 peacefully passed away May 6, 2020 surrounded by family. Bill’s two deceased brothers Karl and Jack were an integral part of his life as well as his parents Peter and Anna Lebert, Chicago IL. He is survived by his wife Barbara, and children Laura Nielsen(Ken), Bill Jr. (Anne), MaryEllen Boston(Barry), Barbie Reinig(John), 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many Chicago nephews and nieces.
Bill served 31 years in the US Navy. During his tenure he logged 4,000 plus hours on 25 different airplanes and made 178 carrier landings. Boomer Bill served as a test pilot as well as Head of the Ordnance Branch for Weapon Systems Test. His last tour of duty was Commanding Officer of the Navy Astronautics Group at Point Mugu CA. Bill is a graduate from the University of Minnesota. He also received his master’s degree from George Washington University while attending the Air War College.
Post naval career Bill opened the Napa Lebert’s Supply Center in Camarillo CA. Later he enjoyed playing golf and tennis at Las Posas Country Club where many funny stories remain. Bill also enjoyed his participation with Santa Clara Chapel in Oxnard. He belonged to Saint Mary Magdalen, the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, The association of Quiet Birdman, Military Officers Association and The Association of Naval Aviation.
His final resting place is Conejo Mountain Memorial Cemetery (Camarillo).
